SPHS Student Participates in Virginia Aerospace Technology Scholars (VASTS) program

Michael Sutherland of St. Paul High School spent his junior year participating in the Virginia Aerospace Technology Scholars (VASTS) program.  He was one of three-hundred students across the state of Virginia selected to enroll in the class.  He completed the class outside of school.  During the year, Michael ranked in the top 130 out of the 300 scholars and earned an opportunity to attend the Summer Academy at NASA Langley Research Center.  While there, he worked alongside fellow scholars, mentors, and NASA representatives to plan a mocked mission to Mars.  Michael continued his work for the Virginia Aerospace Technology Scholars program by participating in the Ambassador Program by sharing his experience to sophomore and junior students at St. Paul High School on the 15th of September and to the Biology II students at Castlewood High School on September 16th.  Michael continues to represent the VASTS program by recruiting and mentoring students for this year’s scholars.
